I never leave reviews but I must say this book had the keys to the emotional jail I was living in . After 13 excruciating and painful years in a relationship with a psychopath, I couldn't figure out why I kept taking him back and believing his lies ?!!!! I read tons of books on the subject ( some which were very helpful ) tried a few different kinds of therapies, kick and screamed in silence , left him a few times without success, etc, etc...I tried everything. But it wasn't till I found this book that
I read the insight I needed to hear. It went something like this "Step one: Give up your dream" . The truth dawned on me ! It was my " aha" moment . I was able to realized and see clearly that all he was doing all this years was dangling the carrot in front of me and that he was NEVER going to fulfill any of his promises. That all he was doing was playing a game I was allowing him to play by entertaining his lies. When I read this book I was ready to be courageous and let go of everything he had promised me that he will DO, BE , HAVE or BUY. I highly recommend this book . Your breakthrough might be different than mine yet we need to empower ourselves with all the knowledge necessary to create distance and space to see better and to take better care of ourselves ! Reading this book has helped me seek the closure i need to move forward in my life after experiencing evil. Thank you! Above all, reading this book has done more for me then any article or book on healing after the devastating effects of being intimately involved with a sociopath.
having done online reading of articles and buying books on psychopaths, I bought this book. If you have suffered at the hands of one of these people, this simple, easy to read book will gently guide you to listen to your heart, your intuition and move forward. I havent found ANY 'christian' books, save one on boundaries, that can help a wounded person heal, as books like this do.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for all women and men recovering fro Narcissist Abuse. This is coming from the from a very fortunate (still in a state of utter shock) survivor. Healing will happen.

I've never written a review before but I was compelled to do so upon reading this book. My 3-year "journey" with a psychopath just ended (within this past month). I was luckier than most though, because my abuser abruptly moved out of state unbeknownst to me. I've talked to friends and respected people (for months and months) regarding my situation/experiences and it was suggested that I do some reading on the subject. After painstaking research on the web and doing all the on-line tests regarding "Are you dating a psychopath?" it was clear that I had, in fact, been in a toxic relationship. My "discard" is still very recent and I am still in the stages of self-doubt, low self-esteem and wondering, "Am I the one who's crazy?" And then I discovered this book here on . After reading it (just yesterday) I felt as though, "This is truly MY story!" It was as if HealingJourney took the past 3 years of my life and put the entire encounter in this book! I immediately began to feel as though my healing process has already begun just by knowing that this victimization is more common than I (or anyone) could have ever imagined! I am so glad that this is/was the first (of many) books I will read on the subject. It will truly be a long road to recovery but it was so great to know that SOMEONE knows EXACTLY what I went through and had the same experience! If I could, I would love to personally thank HealingJourney for sharing her experience as it mirrored mine so intricately. Let this be your first step to healing; just knowing you are not alone.
This book is beautifully written and is wonderful for anyone who has survived the abuse of a psychopath or any other toxic and disordered individual. I'm incredibly grateful to have this as a part of my personal healing library and will definitely recommend it to family and friends.
One particular aspect about the book I really loved, is how the author discusses ways one can get caught up in the check list of signs and how they won't always match exactly. In fact I'd say they often don't. This can leave one feeling a lot of self doubt and experiencing cognitive dissonance. It's a very confusing time as it is. Often P's can be so covert and sneaky it's difficult to trust in your own experience.
If you have begun seeking answers or you are further along in your healing you will love this book. You will feel validated and know that you aren't alone in your experience after reading The Survivor's Quest. It is possible to not only survive the experience with a psychopath but to live a life of peace and happiness again.
